Atlantic Division

-With the hiring of new coach John Tortorella, do the Rangers give up on their pursuit of Stars forward Sean Avery?

-Even if he grew up in Alberta, new Islanders forward Dean McAmmond grew up a fan of his current team.

-The play of defenseman Jack Hillen allowed the Islanders to deal defenseman Chris Campoli to Ottawa.

Northeast Division

-Some good news for the Penguins. With goaltender Ryan Miller sidelined indefinitely due to a high angle sprain, former Penguin Patrick Lalime (right) is the Sabres' starting goaltender for the time being.

-With Miller injured, the Sabres recalled goaltender Jhonas Enroth from Portland of the AHL.

-There is some good news for the Sabres. Thomas Vanek has resumed skating for the first time since breaking his jaw.

-Jaroslav Halak is the Canadien's starting goaltender for the time being.

-Has defenseman Mathieu Schneider rescued the Habs' power play?

-Montreal forward and former Penguin Alex Kovalev has learned something from his benching last week.

-Remember when the Canadiens' centennial season was supposed to be a happy joyous occasion?

-Bruins forward Michael Ryder is expected to return to the lineup tomorrow against Ottawa from facial injuries that have kept him out of the lineup for seven games.

Southeast Division

-Capitals forward Nicklas Backstrom doesn't get nearly the attention some of his teammates do.

-They're starting to learn what former Penguins forward Gary Roberts is all about in Tampa Bay.

-The Lightning has filed tampering charges against the Rangers presumably over assistant coach Mike Sullivan.

-Tampa Bay general manager Brian Lawton brought an end to all those Vincent Lecavalier rumors.

-There might be a reason the Thrashers have so much trouble drawing fans. They have the league's worst home record.

-Atlanta forward Jim Slater is close to returning from his shoulder injury.
