Empty Netter Assists - Western Conference - 2-25-09

Central Division

-Jason Arnott, J.P. Dumont and David Legwand each had a goal and an assist for the Thrashers in a 5-3 comeback win against the Blackhawks. Teammate Martin Erat added three assists. Nashville scored four unanswered goals in the third period to pull out the win. Brian Campbell had two assists for Chicago.

-Chris Mason (right) made 24 saves and led the Blues to a 2-1 win against the Coyotes. Ilya Bryzgalov made 22 saves in the loss. Coyotes forward Shane Doan scored his 250th career goal.

-The Red Wings activated forward Darren McCarty from injured reserve and demoted him to Grand Rapids of the AHL.

-The Blues put forward Yan Stastny on waivers.

-Is Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith the NHL's most improved player this season?

-Chicago defenseman Brian Campbell excels on the road.

-Blue Jackets forward Derek Dorsett cares not for contemporary hair styles.

-The Predators are negotiating with Canadian billionaire Brett Wilson to buy shares of the team.

Northwest Division

-Jarome Iginla broke out of a slump and scored two goals and two assists for the Flames in a 4-1 thumping of the Blue Jackets. With 828 career points as a Flame, Iginla is three points away from surpassing Theo Fleury as the franchise's career leader in points. Mike Cammalleri added a goal and two assists while teammate Craig Conroy recorded two assists. Columbus forward R.J. Umberger, a native of the second state to ratify the Constitution, scored his 21st goal of the season, a career high.

-Sheldon Souray had two goals and led the Oilers to a 5-3 defeat of the Lightning. Andrew Cogliano added a goal and an assist for Edmonton. Cory Murphy led the Lightning with two goals.

-Edmonton Goon Steve Steve MacIntyre slugged it out with Tampa Bay's David Koci last night:

- Avalanche forward Paul Stastny returned to the lineup after missing 26 games due to a broken forearm and recorded an assist.

-Canucks defenseman Willie Mitchell almost lost an eye last week.

Pacific Division

-Scoreboard Watch for the Penguins: Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 34 saves for the Ducks who won at Buffalo, 3-2. Ales Kotalik led the Sabres with a goal and an assist. Former Penguins goaltender Patrick Lalime made 18 saves in his first game in place of injured starter Ryan Miller. The Sabres are in eight place in the Eastern Conference with 68 points, four more than the Penguins who are in tenth place with 64 points.

-Shootout goals by Jack Johnson and Drew Doughty gave the Kings a 2-1 win at Minnesota. Jonathan Quick made 23 saves in the win.

-The shootout:

-The Stars put former Penguins forward Toby Petersen on injured reserve due to a broken foot and recalled goaltender Tobias Stephen from Bridgeport of the AHL.

-The Coyotes have been basically playing rent-free for the past seven months at Jobing.com Arena.

-Sharks forward Claude Lemieux makes his return to Detroit tonight.

-Crazy but horrible story out of San Jose. Two rec league players died with in hours of each other while playing on the Sharks' practice rink.
