Moving up -2-26-09

Petr Sykora's goal last night moved him into some fairly elite company. He now has eight game-winning goals this season which his one of the highest totals in franchise history:
| Player, Season | Games Played | Game-Winning Goals |
| Jaromir Jagr, 1995-96 | 82 | 12 |
| Jaromir Jagr, 2000-01 | 81 | 10 |
| Mario Lemieux, 1992-93 | 69 | 10 |
| Jaromir Jagr, 1992-93 | 81 | 9 |
| Alex Kovalev, 2000-01 | 79 | 9 |
| Joe Mullen, 1993-94 | 84 | 9 |
| Jean Pronovost, 1974-75 | 78 | 9 |
| Mark Recchi, 1990-91 | 78 | 9 |
| Jaromir Jagr, 1997-98 | 77 | 8 |
| Mario Lemieux, 1988-89 | 76 | 8 |
| Mario Lemieux, 1995-96 | 70 | 8 |
| Petr Sykora, 2008-09 | 59 | 8 |
Two things we take from this list:
-First off, how valuable was Jaromir Jagr to this franchise?
-Second, forget a scoring winger for Sidney Crosby or a rugged power forward. Ray Shero's very first priority this offseason sould be to re-sign Petr Sykora to a two- or three-year deal. He's done nothing but score goals, including some pretty important ones like last night's and a few here and there in the postseason. And if you look at the Penguins' totals the past two seasons, he's far and away their top player in terms of game-winning goals:
| Player | Games Played | Game-Winning Goals |
| Petr Sykora | 140 | 12 |
| Evgeni Malkin | 144 | 7 |
| Sidney Crosby | 113 | 6 |
| Tyler Kennedy | 101 | 6 |
| Ryan Malone | 77 | 6 |
| Jordan Staal | 144 | 6 |
| Kris Letang | 117 | 4 |
| Ruslan Fedotenko | 45 | 3 |
| Sergei Gonchar | 84 | 3 |
| Colby Armstrong | 54 | 2 |
| Georges Laraque | 71 | 2 |
| Miroslav Satan | 62 | 2 |
| Matt Cooke | 56 | 1 |
| Pascal Dupuis | 67 | 1 |
| Chris Minard | 35 | 1 |
| Jarkko Ruutu | 71 | 1 |
| Jeff Taffe | 53 | 1 |
| Maxime Talbot | 120 | 1 |
| Ryan Whitney | 104 | 1 |
