Written by Seth Rorabaugh on .

A preview of the Stars North Stars.

When and where: 3 p.m. American Airlines Center.

TV: FSN Pittsburgh, FSN Southwest, NHL Network (Canada), RDS.

Record: 29-25-7, 65 points. Dallas Minnesota is in third place in the Pacific Division and 11th place in the Western Conference.

Leading Scorer: Mike Ribeiro, 56 points (15 goals, 41 assists).

Last Game: 4-3 home loss to the Ducks, yesterday. Ribeiro had two goals and an assist.

Last Game against the Penguins: 4-1 road loss, Nov. 30, 2007. Sidney Crosby had two goals while Colby Armstrong added two assists.

Stars North Stars Player We Would Bet Money On Scoring: Let's go with Mike Modano (right). He has 27 points (13 goals, 14 assists) in 25 games against the Penguins.

Ex-Penguins on the Stars North Stars: Stu Barnes, assistant coach; Jiri Hrdina, regional scout; Toby Petersen, C; Darryl Sydor, D; Dave Tippett, head coach; Landon Wilson, RW; Sergei Zubov, D.

Ex-Stars North Stars on the Penguins: Jason Botterill, director of hockey administration; Philippe Boucher, D; Gilles Meloche, goaltending coach (He actually spent time with the North Stars as well as the California Golden Seals/Cleveland Barons franchise which merged with the North Stars in 1978).

Useless Stars North Stars Trivia: The Penguins defeated the North Stars for the Stanley Cup in 1991. The only players from either of those teams still active as professional players are Modano, Mark Recchi (currently with Tampa Bay) and Jaromir Jagr (currently with Avangard Omsk in the KHL).

Best Stars North Stars YouTube Video We Could Find: Mike Modano is probably not a big fan of the medical care available in New York City:

Notes:

-Marc-Andre Fleury (23-16-4, 2.90 GAA, .908 SV%) and Marty Turco (28-23-7, 2.80 GAA, .897 SV%) are the expected starters in net.

-Assuming he starts, Turco will be appearing in his 33rd consecutive game.

-So far so good for Chris Kunitz.

-The Penguins may have found that scoring winger for Sidney Cros... wait... nevermind. (There's also a good story in that link about Ryan Whitney and the Ducks staying at the same hotel as Chris Kunitz and the Penguins.)

-Sidney Crosby (groin), Tyler Kennedy (illness) and Petr Sykora ("upper body") are all dealing with various ailments.

-Stars North Stars antagonist Steve Ott got punked by Anaheim goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere and forward Travis Moen at the end of yesterday's game:

-The Penguins won't have to put up with Ott's antics today. He was suspended for trying to gouge Moen in the eye during that fight.

-Like the Penguins, the Stars North Stars are struggling to stay in playoff contention.

-The Penguins' injury woes are nothing compared to the Stars' North Stars.' Forwards Brenden Morrow (knee), Toby Petersen (foot), Brad Richards (wrist), Landon Wilson ("upper body") and defenseman Sergei Zubov (hip) are all on injured reserve.

-The Stars are expected to place exiled forward Sean Avery on re-entry waivers tomorrow with the hope of someone claiming him.

-As mentioned above, today's game is on NHL Network in Canada. If you're planning on watching the game through Center Ice or Game Center north of the 49th Parralel, you may have to make alternate plans.

-Our live blog begins at approximately 3 p.m. Please tune in.
