Walker to Tampa Bay - 7-1-09

Written by Seth Rorabaugh on .

The Lightning signed their second defenseman of the day in former Blackhawks blueliner Matt Walker. The deal is for four years at $1.7 million per season.

Walker, a player strictly known for his defense, had a career high 14 points (one goal, 13 assists) in 65 games.

EN Says: We like this move. The Lightning are actually taking a smarter approach this offseason signing some lesser known, conservative under-the-radar types. Walker's a tough, rugged player who will drop the gloves and kill penalties. He's another solid signing for a weak defense.
