Islanders sign Biron - 7-22-09

The Penguins will still have Martin Biron to kick around.
The former Flyers goaltender signed a one-year deal with the Islanders worth $1.4 million. He was 29-19-5 last season with a 2.76 goals against average, .915 save percentage and two shutouts. He led Philadelphia to the playoffs the last two seasons.
EN Says: Really interesting move by the Islanders considering they had signed former Edmonton starter Dwayne Roloson earlier this month. They must really not have a lot of faith in Rick DiPietro's health if they went out and signed two goaltenders who were starters the past few seasons.
Biron and Roloson are good enough to get a decent team to the playoffs and can win a round or two. That's something DiPietro has never accomplished regardless of his health.
