Penguins

Northeast Division

-Tim Thomas made 35 saves for the Bruins in a 2-1 defeat of the Senators.

-Senators forward Chris Neil cut his face with the fist of Bruins forward Milan Lucic last night:

Southeast Division

-The Hurricanes demoted forwards Zach Boychuk, a first-round pick in 2008, and Patrick Dwyer to Albany of the AHL.

-Eric Staal and Ray Whitney each had a goal and two assists for the Hurricanes in a 4-3 defeat of the Thrashers.

Central Division

-The Blues signed former Penguins defenseman Darryl Sydor to a one-year deal worth $1 million. He had been in camp on a tryout basis.

-The Red Wings put forwards Kris Newbury, Jeremy Williams, Evan McGrath, defensemen Andy Delmore and Doug Janik on waivers with the hopes of sending them to Grand Rapids of the AHL and demoted defenseman Logan Pyett, forwards Johan Ryno, Cory Emmerton and goaltender Jordan Pearce to Grand Rapids.

-The Blackhawks, including former Penguins forward Marian Hossa, are on the cover of ESPN the Magazine. Joining Hossa, right, are Patrick Kane, bottom, Jonathan Toews, left and Cristobal Huet, top.

-Chicago claimed forward Radek Smolenak off waivers from the Lightning.

-Predators forward Steve Sullivan is dealing with a groin injury.

-Two goals from Patrick Kane helped the Blackhawks beat the Wild, 4-3.

-Shootout goals from Nikolai Kulemin and John Mitchell gave the Maple Leafs a 5-4 win at Detroit.

Northwest Division

-The Flames released forward Theoren Fleury because he simply didn't have enough foot speed.

-Defenseman Kim Johnsson is fitting right in with the Wild's new system.

Pacific Division

-The Ducks demoted defenseman Mark Mitera to San Antonio of the AHL.

-Court documents revealed that former Ducks general manager Brian Burke offered Steve Moore a contract while Moore was attempting to sue him. Moore sued Burke, formerly Vancouver's general manager, and several members of the Canucks' organization following the 2004 attack by Vancouver forward Todd Bertuzzi that ended Moore's career.

-Evgeni Nabokov made 15 saves for the Sharks in a 6-0 romp of the Ducks.
