Not in 17 years
Mark Crowley's Dec. 26 letter ("What Then?") mentioned the country of "Czechoslovakia." Such a country has not existed since Dec. 31, 1992. It has been nearly two decades since the Czech Republic and Slovakia peacefully separated in what is commonly called "the Velvet Divorce."
Both the Czech Republic and Slovakia have since joined NATO and the European Union and sent troops to Iraq and Afghanistan. Slovakia has adapted the euro as its currency.
Isn't it time we stopped referring to a country that hasn't existed in 17 years? Especially when trying to otherwise argue a point?
