Congress, you're spending our money

Written by Rosa Colucci on .

In an 1808 letter from Thomas Jefferson to Shelton Gilliam, Jefferson stated: "The same prudence which in private life would forbid our paying our own money for unexplained projects, forbids it in the dispensation of the public mon[ies]." Hey, Congress! This means that if you would not spend your own money on a project that you know nothing about, don't spend our money on it.

The Democratic health-care monstrosity, cap-and-trade and the stimulus package come to mind.
