Ruining a good thing
I can relate to the letter from Carol Czapik ("Show Some Consideration for Those Who Collect Our Trash," Jan. 11), who berates inconsiderate people who put their garbage on the street late, then call to complain that the garbage was never picked up.
On my own, I remove greasy-bottomed pizza boxes and other nonrecyclable discards that have been tossed into the Abitibi paper recycling bins by pea-brained Pittsburghers who have discovered a convenient place to get rid of whatever they choose, regardless of the directions printed on the side panels of the bins.
Abitibi paper recyclers perform an admirable service in our communities, financially benefiting schools, churches, hospitals, libraries, municipalities, etc. Of course, the necessary winnowing of the Abitibi bins lessens those benefits. Inconsiderate Pittsburghers, though, don't care. They crassly take care of themselves.
