She inspires us
Thank you for Meg and Bill Kurek's compelling story ("Hard Times: Woman Tackles a Second Wave of Economic Upheaval," March 8). Meg's story is made even more inspiring because of what she chose to do after her recent layoff: volunteer to serve her community through North Hills Community Outreach. Meg and other professionals affected by the economic downturn serve as "employment coaches," mentoring un/underemployed individuals and assisting them with job search and job interview skills.
Sharing skills and serving others by volunteering strengthens our communities, restores a sense of self-worth to many who find themselves suddenly "downsized" and has been touted as an elixir for depression. Volunteer opportunities exist for all ages and abilities, allowing anyone to help a neighbor in need. I hope that Meg's story encourages others facing adversity to remain optimistic. I know she has inspired me and the rest of the NHCO team.
