Litter is everybody's problem
In response to Ryan Kennedy's letter, "Litter Eyesore" (March 18), I would like to comment that litter is not only a city or county problem; it is a community problem. It is the government's responsibility to keep the highway safe and remove litter that is on the roadway. The litter on the side of the road is not a direct hazard but definitely an eyesore.
It is a shame with so much environmental awareness, some people still have no problem throwing their waste out the window. The litter turns into a community problem. Individuals can be involved with their community by cleaning up the roadways and educating others not to litter.
With Earth Day coming up on April 22, I suggest that Mr. Kennedy volunteer in a roadway cleanup program. In my area, the Glass Run Valley Volunteers does a cleanup three times a year, and there are lots of programs available throughout the area.
