We’ll hear the best

Written by Rosa Colucci on .

We are writing in response to Mark Abramowitz's' letter ("The Best Tribute," March 25) about the Pirates hiring a "fresh, new" organist in lieu of playing digital recordings of Vince Lascheid in the years to come.

Over the past 30 years we both were blessed to be able to work alongside Vince during Pirates games and were honored to call him friend! Summers spent at Three Rivers Stadium rooting for our Buccos as we all entertained the best fans in the world allowed us to realize what a phenomenal and talented man Vince was.

As change came to many, if not all, Major League Baseball teams, organists were phased out in lieu of other forms of music. The Pirates always knew what a "gem" they had in Vince and went old school to keep the organ along with the recorded music. Because the Pirates management along with Eric Wolff, in-game entertainment director, had the foresight to record many of Vince's performances, we will always have the best organist in major league sports.

Because of the quality of digital recordings and the professionals playing them at key situations, many fans will be heartened to hear Vince always and never know that the songs aren't live.

We applaud the Pirates and Mr. Wolff and will never forget our friend and No. 1 artist - Vince Lascheid!
