University lost
Columnist E.J. Dionne Jr. wrote an accurate description of President Barack Obama's visit to Notre Dame ("Preacher Obama: The President Scored a Touchdown for Tolerance at Notre Dame," May 19). Mr. Obama's message was tolerance, which many universities teach as a virtue. But Jesus wasn't tolerant (with the money-changers in the temple) and didn't teach his apostles to be tolerant. Mr. Dionne correctly states that Jesus taught us to love one another. Jesus went further and said love means trying to bring back the sinner (not to be tolerant of his actions).
Notre Dame President Rev. John Jenkins incorrectly called this a dialogue. In a dialogue two sides are presented. Only Mr. Obama's side was presented. Little respect was shown for the teachings of the Catholic Church or the message of the bishops.
Mr. Obama scored a touchdown. Notre Dame lost the game.
