Unwise budget cut
Adult education and literacy programs are an essential part of economic recovery for the Pittsburgh region. Yet the Pennsylvania Senate has passed a version of the budget that would slash this funding by 29 percent! Unacceptable.
Groups like the Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council are a direct link to the economic prosperity of Pennsylvania. The cuts will keep needy adult students dependent on taxpayers for financial support.
This is the time for legislators to remember the crucial and effective role that adult education and family literacy programs play in a healthy Pennsylvania.
