Ignored too

Written by Rosa Colucci on .

I appreciated the July 23 letter from Myrna Rosenstein of Squirrel Hill ("I Am Here"). I am 56 years old and have MS. I need to use a cane because I have problems with my stability. I deal with the same problems of being treated as if I am invisible not only from business service employees but also from my family members.

Older people look at me and treat me as if I am not in need of a cane because I am not old enough. High school and college-age young people have treated me with more respect than those in their 30s and older. They ask me if I need assistance.

It is a shame and hurtful to be ignored and to be treated like a 5-year-old due to a physical handicap. I respect my elders and listen to their thoughts on things they have learned over their lifetime. All I want is for that to be given to me in return.
