This news was just released about the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra's Marek Janowski, its Otto Klemperer Guest Conductor Chair (if that sounds tedious, it's worlds better than the previous name for the position: guest conductor in an endowed chair or better, endowed guest conductor):
Marek Janowski has renewed his contract as music director of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande until the Summer 2015.
What does it mean for the PSO? Not much. He isn't gonig anywhere for the time being. The news might have some carry-over in that the renewal shows that Janowski's prestige in Europe is stable, which bodes well for future PSO tours there. Plus, its always a good thing when a conductor is doing the things to build such a good relationship with an orchestra. He returns Oct. 24 to lead the PSO in Berlioz, Bruch and Strauss.
