IonSound takes off
The new-music group IonSound, which I wrote about in August when it became the first resident group at Pitt -- ever, is having its first concert under the new aegis at 8 p.m. this Saturday (September 20). It's an ambitious line-up of works:
JOHN ADAMS China Gates
PHILIP GLASS Piece in the Shape of a Square
ERIK SATIE Pieces in the Shape of a Pear
ARVO PART Fratres
STEVE REICH Music for Pieces of Wood
TERRY RILEY In C
EFRAIN AMAYA Trio for Flute, Violin, and Piano
There is some great music here, and the minimalistic thrust is apparent. But the interesting twist is the incorporation of the work of Pittsburgh photographer Charles Biddle. A little synaesthesia for ya. The concert takes place at Bellefield Auditorium in Oakland; tickets are $5-$10.
