In response to Devon Wittpenn's letter ("Evil Has No Bounds," Aug. 19): George Sodini would likely not have "thought twice" about committing murder if he knew that gym goers at LA Fitness were armed.
Sodini entered the gym intent on ending his life. It seems highly unlikely that he would have been dissuaded by the chance that gunfire from another would kill him instead of bullets from his own gun.
Devon Wittpenn suggests that citizens can discourage gun crime by letting criminals know we are packing heat.
Sadly, I'm too clumsy to carry a gun -- I'm more likely to shoot myself in the foot on the treadmill than intimidate a criminal. Maybe Devon Wittpenn could send me an NRA patch to sew on my duffel bag or running shorts before my next trip to the gym.
