Society life

Written by Andrew Druckenbrod on .

ViolaThere's a 501c society out there for everything, it seems, but I can't help but chuckling a bit thinking about what they talk about at American Viola Society meetings (which recently e-mailed me): How to get more respect? How to explain what you play to people who only know what a violin is (or fiddle...)?

OK, poking fun aside, it's worth noting that any youngster -- or adult -- who is learning any instrument in the orchestra probably has a society out there that will help with info, support and connections. Just search on-line and see (I even found a piccolo one!) -- there's strength in numbers.
