Certainly a right

In response to Tom Hayson's Aug. 30 letter ("It's Not a Right") in reference to health care: I beg to disagree. In the Declaration of Independence Thomas Jefferson asserts: "We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." Those without adequate health care are often deprived of the first of these rights.

Mr. Hayson's logic also could deny us liberty by not providing the protection of the law through police and the courts. Oh! I guess we could do it ourselves, not expect the government to do it for us. How? Just read the Second Amendment for that answer. This solution is being proposed in colleges and fitness centers right now.
