A winning choice

President Obama could not have picked a more perfect ambassador to Ireland than Danny Rooney, whose ancestors are from Ireland ("Steelers Owner Dan Rooney to Be Ambassador to Ireland," March 17).

I was a childhood friend of the Rooneys; I know that Danny will do the same professional job as ambassador as he did with the Steelers.

I know Art, his dad, is looking down with a large smile and cigar in his mouth. The only bad thing about this move is the 'Burgh is losing a great North Sider. Winning a few Super Bowls is not bad at all. Ambassador to Ireland is great!

In 2000, my wife and I were in Ireland and loved every minute. I know the driving habits. I'm a retired Teamster, and Danny will need a professional driver while there. I'm available. Think how relaxed "youns" will be with a Teamster and old friend as your driver. Plus, I'm from the "ward."

Danny, good luck and good health to you and yours from your ol' football coaching friend.
