U.S. Rep. Jason Altmire is nothing more than Melissa Hart in a suit and tie. His voting record and positions on numerous issues (against health reform, against cap and trade, anti-choice, pro military tribunals, pro Patriot Act) are identical to those of his former Republician rival.
His website proudly proclaims that he is to the right of center in Congress. Unfortunately, Mr. Altmire epitomizes the nature of our political system, which is essentially two wings of the same conservative, corporate political party, devoted primarily to amassing more power for itself and more wealth for its rich benefactors.
The recent "debate" over health care reform illustrates this perfectly, where real reform (Medicare for all, or at the very least a public option to compete with private insurers) was never even on the table, and certainly was never publicly supported by Mr. Altmire.
Maybe Mr. Altmire and some of his tea party constituents have convinced themselves that they are representative of the wishes of real Americans. In reality, they are consistently supporting the positions of the wealthy and of big corporations at the expense of the rest of us.
