Reason to weep
I have read various accounts, including your May 23 editorial "Do Unto Others," which report the results from the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life and torture.
I continue to feel embarrassed and ashamed of other Christians who agree that torture is often and sometimes justified. Since my own Roman Catholic history includes the horrific years of Inquisition, I find the support (51 percent) of non-Hispanic Catholics particularly galling.
There seems another Gospel verse that resonates in the face of such disturbing attitudes: "Jesus wept."
