In reference to your irrational editorial concerning Jason Altmire's vote on health care reform ("Vote of Weakness," March 22): First, he was expressing the wishes of most of his constituency; 211 other members of Congress did likewise.
Additionally, this legislation is a shoddy approach to the system it replaces. You can't add 32 million people to the present level of professionals, technicians and facilities and not greatly impair what we had. Add in the substantial costs of the system and you have created a financially unsound mess that will drag down our ability to compete internationally.
There are plenty of other reasons to vote nay on this bill and those congressmen who did should be supported and re-elected. I believe they will.
