Freedom’s genesis

The irony of Edith Bell's April 15 letter is impossible to ignore ("I Object to My Tax Money Funding Violence"). Ms. Bell belongs to an organization called the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom.

I'm a retired military veteran of 22 years' service. Where do women of her organization think peace and freedom come from? I usually take anti-military criticism with a grain of salt. I feel usually such people are just left-wing, naive or former draft dodgers trying to assuage their guilt at not serving when their country called.

But when someone claims to support freedom and she apparently doesn't know how we got it in the first place, how it's been preserved for more than 200 years or how it's being protected now by brave men and women fighting religious fanatics who have already attacked us on our soil, then it's time to speak up and stand up to such negativity.
