In harm's way
As a Pittsburgh resident I'm really disappointed in the snow removal in our city. Traveling to Oakland on Saturday night, I couldn't believe the road conditions. After attending a wedding reception we went up Forbes Avenue to Murray Avenue and these roads were terrible, to say the least. Where were the road crews? Oh, I know, they can't pay them overtime! However, the city fathers can put the residents in harm's way. That makes a lot of sense. Save the money, forget the people who pay the taxes.
Then to make matters worse - if they can get worse - our street in Lincoln Place (the 31st Ward) was still an ice skating rink as of Monday morning. We didn't see a salt truck the whole weekend. In fact, on Monday morning a school bus full of children slid slideways on our street and was stuck for an hour before it was towed. We prayed no one on this street had a medical emergency during the recent snows.
Last year we had excellent snow removal in the 31st Ward. What happened? Only the people responsible know. Bring back the salt boxes we used to have, and my husband will gladly throw the salt on our hill. Why they took them away is a question that I can't answer.
This is one time I'm not proud to be a Pittsburgher.
