Why have so many turned on Ben?

As a former Pittsburgh area resident and a lifelong Steelers fan, I can't believe the way in which the media and fans have turned on Ben Roethlisberger. He made a big mistake and must pay, which he will.

Is the "in your face" media putting fuel on the situation and firing up the fans? Why not let him prove himself? Right now there is a lot of "she said" and very little "he said" and we're being inundated even after no charges were filed.
