Joe JohnsonAin't It Cool News' reaction to Marvel picking Joe Johnston to direct its "Captain America" movie?

"He may not be the splashiest choice, but as far as I'm concerned, there's no one more qualified to direct CAPTAIN AMERICA than the man who gave us THE ROCKETEER."

The film will be titled "First Avenger: Captain America," and is slated for a May 6, 2011 due date.

Marvel's Kevin Feige told The Hollywood Reporter, "This is a guy who designed the vehicles for 'Star Wars,' who storyboarded the convoy action sequence for 'Raiders of the Lost Ark." From 'Rocketeer' to 'October Sky' to 'The Wolfman,' you can look at pieces of his movies and see how they lead to this one." Johnston's other credits include "Jurassic Park III" (the still at right is Johnston on the set of "Jurassic Park III) and "Hidalgo." His "Wolf Man" film, starring Benecio del Toro, is schedule for an April 3, 2009 release.

There's no screenwriter attached at the moment, but Marvel expects to hire one shortly, the Reporter story said.
