When the Black N Gold Girls set their minds to something, Pittsburgh's sports teams often come out winners.
Their latest quest is to see Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen as coverboy for Sony's Major League Baseball '13 videogame. Voting via Facebook and Twitter began Monday and closes at 8 p,m. Friday, Jan. 11.
Reminding fans of their campaign to vote early and often for then-Steelers receiver Hines Ward on "Dancing With the Stars," the group has posted on its Facebook page:
"Hey we pulled out an online 'W' for Hines... let's do it for Cutch, too! Happy voting.. please and THANK YOU!!!"
A running tally of votes for the seven finalists is available at http://mlb.mlb.com/covervote/app.jsp. As of Wednesday morning, McCutchen was in first place, having edged past the Tigers' Miguel Cabrera. They were followed by the Yankees' CC Sabathia, Dodgers' Matt Kemp, Nationals' Bryce Harper, Giants' Buster Posey and Brewers' Ryan Braun.
Specifics for voting are on the web site, and while only one vote per person, per day, counts, anyone pre-ordering the videogame receives 25 extra votes. Tweets for McCutchen can be marked #MLB13Cutch.
