Drusky to hold charitable Unity Concert

Drusky Entertainment promised an event that would address issues of race and social justice, and here it is.

The promoter, along with Pittsburgh Artists for Social Change, present A Unity Concert to Benefit Afro American Music Institute on April 23 at Altar Bar in the Strip with:

*Revered Deryck Tines and the Lincoln Larimer Senior Gospel Chorale

*Faculty jazz Instructors from Afro American Music Institute

*Afro Cuban duets by father and son Miguel Sague Jr and Miguel Sague III

*Puerto Rican standards by Geña y Peña

*Christiane D and the V*Sague Sangers

*Launka Zimeir

*Shad Ali

*John Basement

*Bluey

*Sosa

*Billy Pilgrim

*the students of We Rock Workshop from Creative Life Support

*Umoja

*Kep Flow

*Stevee Wellons

*DJ Nuke Knocka from PR7X Radio

*DJ Mike Canton from the Soul Show on WYEP

 *Hosted by Dr. HollyHood, Lita D'Vargas and Phat Man Dee

 Speakers to include:

*Tim Stevens of B-PEP - Black Political Empowerment Project

*Anupama Jain of Pittsburgh Coalition for Racial Equity in the Arts at the Pittsburgh Arts Council 

*Pittsburgh Human Rights Alliance

Tickets for the 6 p.m. all-ages show are $10 at the door; additional funds accepted; no one turned away for lack of funds. Tickets are on sale at the venue box office, Ticketfly.com or by calling 1-877-4-FLY-TIX.

In addition to donating 100 percent of the proceeds from ticket sales, Drusky Entertainment will contribute a portion from each ticket sold at all future Drusky shows at Altar Bar for one year.

Drusky Entertainment president Brian Drusky stirred controversy in December when he wrote a series of joke posts on Facebook that were perceived as making light of the racial justice protests following the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo.

The promoter promised at the time to meet with members of the black community to organize a charitable event.
