MGMT to play Stage AE in December

Written by Scott Mervis on .

MGMTStage AE has announced a Dec. 2 date with the electropop/psych-rock/indie-rock/hard-to-describe MGMT, which has skipped Pittsburgh on recent tours.

MGMT, which formed in 2002, at Wesleyan University, features Ben Goldwasser and Andrew Van Wyngarden, who spent his early years in Pittsburgh while his father, Bruce, was the editor of Pittsburgh Magazine.

The band, best known for the singles "Time to Pretend," "Kids" and "Electric Feel" from its 2007 debut "Oracular Spectacular," just released its self-titled fourth album, which is drawing mixed reviews. Alternative Press called it "deliciously mind-bending" while Spin declared that "it will leave you as confused as they seem to be."

The band's last show here was at CMU on September 2007, right around the time of the debut.
