This sounds like it could be a lot of fun. Here is the press release about two Rooftop Shindigs, with the first set for next week and the second in September.

The Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership (PDP) and Pittsburgh Filmmakers will host a pair of free Rooftop Shindig events, beginning on Wednesday, August 13 with a showing of “Pee Wee’s Big Adventure” and a free concert by Grand Piano.

The Shindig will be held on the top level of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust’s Theater Square Garage, located at 667 Penn Ave. This event will also be a part of Bike Pittsburgh’s popular Bike Fest 2014. Bikers are encouraged to ride to the Shindig.

“Catching a favorite local band and a popular film surrounded by the beautiful architecture of Downtown will make for a unique urban event.” said Jeremy Waldrup, president and CEO of the PDP. “And all that is complemented by fabulous food and tasty adult beverages that make the evening complete.”

The fun begins at 6 p.m. with games, food and cocktails. Sonoma Grille, Perle, Woodfired Flatbreads and Dream Cream will be on-hand with food for purchase. Perle will also be serving up specialty cocktails.

Local rock and roll band Grand Piano will perform at 7:00 p.m. and the classic boy and his bike film, “Pee Wee’s Big Adventure” will be shown on the big screen beginning after sundown, approximately at 9:00 p.m.

“We’re excited to partner with PDP to bring fun and innovative programming to Downtown Pittsburgh,” said Gary Kaboly, director of exhibition, Pittsburgh Filmmakers. “This is a perfect extension of our ongoing Harris Theater film showings in the heart of Downtown.”

While the event is free, standard parking rates apply. Guests are encouraged to bring a chair, however inexpensive inflatable seats will be available to purchase on site. And in the event of rain, the Rooftop Shindig will occur the next day, on Thursday, Aug. 14.

The Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership will post on its website DowntownPittsburgh.com, as soon as possible, in the event of a rescheduled date.

The-Big-LebowskiThe second event in the series will be Wednesday, Sept. 10 (rain date Sept. 11) and will feature a showing of “The Big Lebowski” and music by Jimbo and the Soupbones.

Support and sponsorship for the Rooftop Shindig has been provided by Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, Green Mountain Energy, Alco Parking and Zipcar.
