Apes rule. Again.
“Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” was No. 1 in its second weekend at the box office, thanks to positive reviews and good word of mouth.
“Apes” is only the second film this summer to top the box office for two consecutive weekends according to Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst. Until now, only the new “Transformers” had accomplished that feat.
“The Purge: Anarchy,” a loose sequel to “The Purge” set in 2023 at a time when anything goes on the nighttime streets of Los Angeles for a 12-hour period, was second according to early estimates from Rentrak which tracks the box office.
