Even if "The Fault in Our Stars" doesn't finish at No. 1 for the weekend -- and it could -- it already shimmers with success.

Thursday night showings brought in $8.2 million according to Variety.

That’s without any 3-D surcharge although some fans attended special fan screenings with simulcast interviews along with the movie starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort.

Others simply lined up at their local theater to catch evening shows and still others  went to special events, as with the one organized by St. Paul’s Episcopal Church which appears in the movie under its own name (but located, for story purposes, in Indianapolis).

“TFIOS,” based on John Green’s enormously popular novel, was filmed in Pittsburgh in late summer and early fall 2013. In case you missed our story then, here it is again and embedded is a video interview with Green conducted by Margot Allison, daughter of colleague John Allison.
