Media mad for Jon Hamm, here promoting Million Dollar Arm movie

Written by Barbara Vancheri on .

For some lucky media members, today (Sunday) brought a double or triple dose of Jon Hamm who came to Pittsburgh to promote “Million Dollar Arm” and appear on ESPN — the same night “Mad Men” airs.
ESPN is televising the game between the Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals, who happen to be Hamm’s hometown team.
Hamm and real-life pitcher Rinku Singh, recovering from Tommy John surgery, did brief interviews on the field at PNC Park as did J.B. Bernstein, the real-life sports agent Hamm plays in “Million Dollar Arm.”
Some actors are disappointing in person but Hamm was not — handsome, quick-witted, in good humor when someone’s cell rang as he talked to a scrum of reporters and paying tribute to the hard work of Bernstein and Rinku, along with Dinesh Patel who once was also a pitching prospect.
The men had to learn baseball, English and the wonders of life in America — such as elevators and pizza delivery — in short order. “Million Dollar Arm,” rated PG, opens in theaters Friday. We’ll have more in Monday’s paper and closer to release.
