Written by Barbara Vancheri on .

The Directors Guild of America has named its five nominees for its top honor.

They are, in alphabetical order:   Alfonso Cuaron (“Gravity”), Paul Greengrass (“Captain Phillips”),  Steve McQueen (“12 Years a Slave”), David O. Russell (“American Hustle”) and Martin Scorsese (“The Wolf of Wall Street”).

The winner will be named at the 66th annual DGA Awards dinner on Jan. 25 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles. Actress Jane Lynch will host the event.

A year ago, Ben Affleck took the DGA prize for "Argo," which later was named best picture at the Academy Awards.

While some of the nominees are first-timers, this is past winner Scorsese’s 11th nomination.
