If you were planning to spend Christmas Day or New Year’s with Meryl Streep and her co-stars in “August: Osage County,” you will have to pick another movie.
The Weinstein Co. announced today that it will open on Friday, Jan. 10, same day as “Her” starring Joaquin Phoenix.
“August: Osage County” is directed by CMU grad John Wells and stars Streep as the matriarch of one dysfunctional family. The ensemble also includes Julia Roberts, Julianne Nicholson, Juliette Lewis, Abigail Breslin, Ewan McGregor, Benedit Cumberbatch, Chris Cooper and Sam Shepard.
It’s based on Tracy Letts’ prize-winning play but it’s not exactly the sort of feel-good or lighter movie people gravitate toward at Christmas.
