No. 1 movie of the week is ...

Never underestimate star power. 
 
Matt Damon helped to propel “Elysium” to the top spot at the box office with an estimated $30,500,000, bumping it ahead of another R-rated movie — this one, a comedy starring Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudeikis (in photo below) — for the weekend. 
 
And while “Planes” wasn’t from Pixar, it was Disney and no one seemed to mind. Some, no doubt, paid the extra money to see it in 3-D and further solidify the box office. 
 
Here are the early estimates from hollywood.com with final numbers due on Monday, as usual.
 
blogPlanes21. “Elysium” — $30,500,000.
2. “We’re the Millers” — $26,555,000, for $38,044,000 since its Wednesday opening. 
3. “Planes” — $22,525,000. 
4. “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters” — $14,600,000, bringing its total since Wednesday to $23,457,059.
5. “2 Guns” — $11,127,900, bringing its total to $48,516,805. 
6. “Smurfs 2” — $9,500,000, for $46,600,000 since opening,. 
7. “The Wolverine” — $8,000,000, or $111,986,170 so far. 
8. “The Conjuring” — $6,700,000, for $120,745,000.
9. “Despicable Me 2” — $5,748,000, for a remarkable $338,314,195 in six weeks. 
10. “Grown Ups 2” — $3,700,000, or $123,800,000 since opening.
