Reese Witherspoon goes 'Wild' on big screen

Written by Barbara Vancheri on .

wildbkjacketReese Witherspoon will star in a big-screen version of Cheryl Strayed’s book “Wild,” Fox Searchlight Pictures has announced. Nick Hornby is adapting it.

It is expected to begin production in late fall once a director is in place.

Strayed tells the story of losing hope after the end of her marriage and death of her mother.

After years of reckless, destructive behavior, she makes a rash decision.  With absolutely no experience, driven only by sheer determination, Cheryl hikes more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, alone.

Sounds like a showcase and physically taxing role for Witherspoon, an Oscar winner for “Walk the Line” who was in the news for being tipsy and mouthy with police.

Still no word, however, on who will star in  David Fincher’s “Gone Girl,” which Witherspoon will produce.

If you haven’t bought that Gillian Flynn novel, snap it up and read it at the pool. It’s the definition of a page turner and should make a fantastic film.
