Mama scares up top spot at box office

Moviegoers cried out for “Mama” this weekend as the horror movie starring Jessica Chastain earned an estimated $28 million and should top $30 million by the end of Monday.
Chastain is having a very good weekend since “Zero Dark Thirty,” the movie that could earn her an Oscar for best actress, was No. 2 for the weekend. And “Silver Lining Playbook” is finally available to most moviegoers and the box office figures reflect that.
Here are the early estimates courtesy of with final figures due in a day or two:

2. “Zero Dark Thirty” — $17,600,000, for $55,945,000 since release. 
3. “Silver Linings Playbook” — $11,351,000, bringing its total to $55,310,270.
4. “Gangster Squad” — $9,110,000, for $32,220,000 in two weeks. 
5. “Broken City’ — $9,000,000.
6. “A Haunted House” — $8,330,000, for $29,980,000 to date. 
7. “Django Unchained” — $8,243,000, for $138,361,735 since release. 
8. “Les Miserables” — $7,814,370 or $130,372,390 since Christmas. 
9. “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” — $6,405,000, for an impressive $287,395,000 in North America alone, helped no doubt by the 3-D.
10. “The Last Stand” — $6,300,000.
