PNME kicking it up a notch
I don't know why more local classical music groups don't use online fundraising sources such as Kickstarter more, but I am not surprised that the Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble has. It has launched a Kickstarter "campaign" to commission a new work. With the expense of commissions and the reduced amount of foundation support, it's a great idea.
PNME's project is to raise enough revenue to pay composer Ted Hearne to write a work for this summer season -- the ensemble is calling it an "evening length work. I don't know how he will have time to write it in time for the August concerts, but I am assuming he already started! If you want to contribute to the campaign visit the kickstarter page.
