Pittsburgh Concert Society 2013 Young Artist winners

The PCS 2013 Young Artists auditions are a great event supporting youth music development in Pittsburgh. They took place over the weekend. BTW, I went to Notre Dame with Adrian Daly, a wonderfully talented pianist who is now doing a bang-up job running the Cleveland Institute.

The PCS 2013 Young Artists auditions were held on Saturday, January 5, at  the Kresge Recital Hall, College of Fine Arts, Carnegie Mellon University.  They were open to instrumentalists under age 19 and vocalists under 22 living or studying within a 75-mile radius of Pittsburgh.  

In addition to receiving a $500 Anna and Benjamin Perlow Scholarship to help further his/her musical education, each of the winners will perform in a recital on March 3 or March 17.  The adjudicator was Dr. Adrian Daly, Dean of the Conservatory at the Cleveland Institute of Music. 

Dr. Daly selected the following winners listed in alphabetical order:

Hannah Breslau, 16, piano, a student of Hanna Li, attends the Pittsburgh Obama Academy
Songela Chen, 15, piano, a student of Hanna Li, attends North Allegheny High School
Ariana Chiu, 12, piano, a student Natasha Snitkovsky, attends Upper St Clair Middle School
Zhaoliang Albert Du, 16, piano, a student of Hanna Li, attends Mount Lebanon High School
Rishi Mirchandani, 16, piano, a student of Luz Manriquez, attends Fox Chapel High School
Justin Morrison,  20, baritone, a student of Guenko Guechev, attends Duquesne University
Rebecca Pfingstl, 16, harp, a student of Marissa Knaub, home schooled
Cody Piper, 17, piano, a student of Natalie Phillips, attends North Allegheny High School
Jessica Snyder, 21, soprano, a student of Kelly Lynch,  recent graduate of Chatham University
Sisi Tang, 16, piano, a student of Natasha Snitkovsky, attends North Allegheny High School

The March 3 and March 17 recitals will both take place at Kresge Theatre in the College of Fine Arts building on the Carnegie Mellon campus at 2 pm. Tickets can be purchased or reserved online, at Student tickets are free.
